It is important to provide guidance while leaving enough flexibility in a daily menu plan so that individual dietary preferences can be incorporated into a diet plan that meets your needs. The "Food Plan with Recommended Menus" is a 7-day sample menu at the 2,000 calorie level with calorie amounts listed for each food item. In order to adjust calorie amount to your recommended calorie level, simply remove or add foods to the daily menu according to the desired calorie amount. You can eat these foods at a time that is convenient to you. A list of foods and their caloric content is included in the "USDA Caloric Content Chart", to help you select foods for your menu adjustments. These meal menu samples will help you to control your caloric intake while meeting healthy dietary quidelines. As you continue on this die pattern, you will become more aware of the energy value of various foods not listed. Substitutions are encouraged as long a they are relatively close in calorie content. |
